This Doctor Offers Fitness as a Prescription
“I find fitness to be of paramount importance in overall health," explained Dr. Bailey. "Every day in my medical office I see patients with multiple medical problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, depression, anxiety, chronic fatigue, etc., which are often directly related to lifestyle choices. Many of these medical problems resolve without medications if the lifestyle choices that caused them such as physical inactivity, poor diet and obesity are addressed and treated.”
Dr. Bailey decided to tackle these health obstacles head on when he created Grandview Pro Fitness. The 5,000-square-foot space includes cardio equipment like treadmills, bikes and cross-trainers. But there’s also an emphasis on strength training.
Grandview Pro Fitness is outfitted with an impressive array of Hammer Strength equipment. Three HD Athletic Racks are used for both individual and group training of four to six people. Rows of Hammer Strength Select and plate-loaded equipment as well as a Life Fitness multi-jungle provide plenty of options for exercisers.
Grandview has a wide range of members attracted by plenty of individual workout options, several small group training classes, quality personal training and yoga. Exercisers pay a reasonable $300 annual membership fee (or $35 per month), but elite workout veterans can join for free if they meet one of several requirements. The 12-Month Membership Challenge rewards athletes for accomplishments like being able to bench press 150-pound dumbbells 10 times, run a marathon in an allotted time or qualify for the Kona Ironman. Professional athletes and Olympians can also use the facility for free.
Dr. Bailey’s reach extends beyond the fitness facility. Grandview Pro Fitness also offers an extensive corporate wellness program that includes comprehensive physicals, biometric screenings, detailed lab work, nutrition and weight loss counseling, and other health-related tests.
“I see fitness by prescription as a way to help address medical conditions and overall health by incorporating regular exercise and healthy eating under the guidance of a multidisciplinary team including the physician, nurse, nutritionist, physical therapist and personal trainer,” added Dr. Bailey.
